Connect To Windows

Those who have made the switch from Windows to Mac may still need to connect to a shared server on the PC or network. This article walks you through the steps, and while not complicated, are not necessarily as intuitive as they should be.

Parralells Ships

Parallels gives you the opportunity to run Windows & Mac OS X at the same time on your Mac. If you want to switch to a Mac, but have a couple Windows-only apps that are preventing you, now is the time. Parallels is nothing short of amazing. You can set it up where there is no distinct difference between Windows and Mac OS X applications. Everything runs in the OS X context and it's all seemless.

Tip: Control A Windows PC From Your Mac

I had kinda forgotten about this little gem until Small Dog reminded me of it. You can very easily control a Windows PC from your Mac using the free (!) Microsoft Remote Desktop client. The program allows you to control the PC and shows you everything the PC is up to in a window. So if you need to keep a PC around for a program or two, you can control it through your Mac.

The Mac is not running Windows itself, it is simply controlling a PC remotely. If you're looking to run Windows on your Mac, you'll need an Intel-based Mac and Boot Camp or Parallels.

Run Windows Applications Without Windows

The 60-day trial of Codeweavers is now available. Codeweavers enables you to run Windows software on your Intel-based Mac. Have Parallels you say? Installed Boot Camp have you? Well, that's all nice and well, but do you really want to run Windows?

Codeweavers lets you run selected Windows-based software without Windows! And for the skeptics, you can download the beta for free and try it out.

Mac Does Windows

Well - I personally didn't think it would happen, but Apple officially enables consumers to install Windows XP on their Intel-based Macs.

Notice how I didn't say "officially supports". Apple still maintains that they have no interest in supporting or selling windows. However, Apple enables users to install Windows XP and a whole lot more. Boot Camp walks you through the process: it dynamically resizes your startup disk's partitions to create a new one for XP (no reformatting required), automatically burns you a CD full of Windows drivers for Intel-based Mac hardware, and then reboots you into Windows to start the installation procedure. Boot Camp works on the awesome iMac and MacBook Pro Macs.

MacWorld tested the new software basically says the whole thing is "simple". Anyone could do this, and everything is fully supported.

If you've always wanted a Mac (who hasn't), but have been hesitant because you want that Windows safety net, now is the time to switch. Once you go Mac, you'll never go back.
